HOW TO USE:
Select a Hardness Pick, each fitted and stamped on the ends with two different Mohs’ Hardness points, numbered:
- RED – 2 and 3
- YELLOW – 4 and 5
- GREEN – 6 and 7
- BLUE – 8 and 9
Hold the Hardness Pick at a 70 degrees angle like a writing pen but use medium (7 lbs) force in pressing down while scratching the Hardness point across a smooth surface of the material. If it scratches the material, then the material is softer than your Hardness point. Try to scratch the material with the next softer point and so on until you can no longer scratch it. For example, if the No. 5 point scratches the material, but the No. 4 point does not, then the material’s Hardness is between 4.0 to 5.0 or about 4.5.
